Introduction

We are looking for replacement staff in a French-speaking transition house .

Replacement staff in French-speaking transition homes play an essential role in ensuring continuity of services during the absence of regular staff. They help create a welcoming and safe environment, while providing direct support and a caring presence to residents.

Using a culturally appropriate approach and fostering intercultural integration, the replacement staff supports residents in their transition and inclusion journey within the community. Reporting to the transition house manager, this role involves working closely with the team, volunteers, and community partners to ensure quality services focused on the needs of residents.

Key Responsibilities

Resident Support

  • Welcome adult residents with empathy and respect.

  • Provide a caring presence and frontline support.

  • Promote residents' independence during their stay.

  • Listen to psychosocial needs and refer to appropriate resources as needed.

 

Safety and protection

  • Ensure the security of the premises through regular rounds and compliance with protocols.

  • Monitor access and manage incidents according to procedures.

  • Intervene appropriately in situations of tension, crisis or emergency.

 

Cultural advice and intercultural integration

  • Promote a climate of respect for cultural differences and migratory realities.

  • Support residents in their integration and adaptation process.

  • Encourage harmonious cohabitation in a collective setting.

 

Collaboration and teamwork

  • Maintain clear communication with the team during shift handovers.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders and other staff members to ensure consistent supervision.

  • Actively participate in the continuous improvement of services.

 

Administrative tasks

  • Write shift reports rigorously.

  • Record important facts, incidents and observations.

  • Manage phone calls and emails related to job duties.

 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate, as needed, in light maintenance of common areas.

  • Provide logistical support during internal activities.

  • Any other task compatible with the role, at the request of the coordination .

Working Conditions

  • On-call work according to replacement needs (day shifts, evening, night, weekends).
  •  Workplace: L'Agapanthe - La Passerelle-I.D.É. transition house.
  •  Dynamic and caring intercultural environment,
  •  On-the-job training provided.
  •  Hourly rate or remuneration to be discussed depending on experience.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Education: Degree in social work, special education, community intervention, or any other related field.
  •  Experience :
    •  Experience in intervention, in a community setting or in supporting vulnerable populations, ideally in a migratory or intercultural context.
    •  Experience working in a collective setting or in temporary accommodation.

  •  Language: Fluency in French and English (oral and written).
  •  Skills :
    •  Active listening, empathy and sense of service.
    •  Ability to work under pressure and intervene in crisis situations.
    •  Autonomy, discretion and good judgment.
    •  Good communication skills and team spirit.
    •  Organizational skills and attention to detail in administrative tasks.
