Introduction

The Francophone Transition Home Worker plays a pivotal role in fostering a welcoming environment, providing direct support, and ensuring the safety and well-being of residents of the francophone transition home. By leveraging a culturally sensitive approach and facilitating intercultural integration, the Francophone Transition Home Worker supports residents as they navigate their transition into the broader community. Reporting to the Francophone Transition Home Manager, this role requires collaboration with staff, volunteers, and community partners to deliver high-quality, resident-centered services.
Key Responsibilities
Support for residents
Provide a welcoming and supportive environment for residents, treating everyone with dignity and respect.
Helping residents meet their immediate needs, including access to food, clothing and culturally relevant services.
Provide emotional support, active listening and crisis intervention when needed.
Ensure the well-being of residents and respond to any emerging concerns on their part.
Safety and protection
Ensure the safety and protection of the francophone transition home by carrying out regular checks and respecting established protocols.
Respond quickly to emergency situations, including providing crisis support and first aid if necessary.
Cultural advice and intercultural integration
Helping residents understand local customs and community norms while respecting and recognizing their cultural identities.
Provide cultural guidance to ensure residents feel supported in preserving their heritage while integrating into the community.
Collaboration and teamwork
Working collaboratively with staff, volunteers and community partners to deliver seamless support services.
Participate in team meetings, training and professional development opportunities.
Administrative tasks
Maintain accurate and confidential records of resident interactions, incidents and progress.
Support center operations by performing routine administrative tasks, such as updating records and tracking supplies.
Additional Responsibilities
Participate in francophone transition home events, including fundraisers and training sessions.
Complete additional tasks and special projects assigned by the Francophone Transition Home Manager.
Working Conditions
- Working closely with vulnerable residents who may have complex needs, including crisis management support.
This position requires flexible working including evenings, weekends, bank holidays and nights, and occasional emergency cover.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Education : Graduation from a college or university program in social work, psychology or a related field.
- Experience:
- Experience working in a social services environment or with vulnerable populations.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and anti-oppression frameworks.
- Language : Fluency in French and English (oral and written).
- Skills:
- Strong interpersonal, crisis management and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- High level of empathy, social intelligence and professionalism.
